Poor Max...he is officially known as DEVIL 023 at Duke now that he is part of a desensitization study for his peanut allergy. We just finished three intense days at Duke which required an IV (two for Max), blood draws, skin tests, and peanuts! In a "nutshell", he got peanut in very small doses all day Monday until he had a reaction - hives and a swollen lip - followed immediately by benedryl. The second day looked much like the first day. The third day was a dosage day where he did the dosage we will do daily at home for two weeks and then return to Duke for a dosage increase every two weeks for a few months...
The doctors, nurses, staff are absolutely delightful, very patient, and supportive.
