We Knew Our Little Girl Was Sweet

Anna has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.
Backing up a little...I noticed Anna was drinking a lot and peeing even more for a week so I took her in to the pediatrician.  They ran some blood work and tested her urine and the kids and I waited for the results.  The next thing I knew Anna had a blood glucose level of 513 (>200 means diabetic) and we headed straight to the ER!  Anna was immediately taken back to a room where Peter met us and Peter's secretary (A Godsend) whisked Kate and Max away to her office.  We had a pajama party at Duke Hospital so we could manage Anna's glucose levels, be trained on everything we needed to know to be able to continue Anna's care at home and played in the children's hospital.  The pediatric team was exceptionally supportive and wonderful in every way!

Anna is doing exceptionally well and adjusting to her new life with glucose tests (5-7x/day) and insulin shots(4x/day). She has started helping with the glucose checks by being in charge of the meter! When it is time for an insulin shot she either says, "I want to hide" or "let's wait until tomorrow" but in the end she takes them without a problem and is thrilled to get a fun band-aid, especially if it is "strawberry shitcake(shortcake)"! We are so proud of our brave little girl.

Yes, this is a life thing. My understanding is the number of glucose checks and insulin shots (and types) will vary throughout life with growth, sickness, diet fluctuations etc.
