Anna's class went on a field trip to Powell Drive Park in Raleigh to explore different habitats. It was a wonderful little gem of a park hidden in the middle of a neighborhood. The kids explored the pond habitat and the grassland habitat played at the park and had a picnic.
At the pond they learned about metamorphosis and found tadpoles in
various stages, nymphs (baby dragonflies, fresh water clams and water
bugs. They were absolutely amazed by all that they found!
We moved to the grassy area and pretended we were bears and discussed the impact of food, water, shelter, and space on our habitats. It was a series of interactive games that demonstrated how population sizes and resources impact animals.
