Field Trip: Historic Yates Mill

The kids and I took a field trip to Yates Mill - the last operable water-powered gristmill in Wake County.  It is surrounded by 174 acres of land with trails and a pond.  We explored the trails and got up close to the mill. It was very impressive even though it is currently not operating due to COVID. The kids were very curious to learn more, so we may need to revisit once they can reopen. Thanks for the suggestion Shannon!

Snow Day!!!

Snow Days are still a thing even when there is Virtual Academy!  The day was called an Asynchronous Day which meant no LIVE instruction only assignments posted to complete by the end of the day.  WOOHOO!!! The kids were pumped and ready to go at 6:30am at which point I said we needed to wait for the sun to come up! :) By 7:15am we were playing in the snow and we did not stop for the next 3 hours, pummeling each other with snowballs, building a snowman named Larry, starting a fortress and having a socially distanced snowball fight with neighbors!  We warmed up with hot chocolate and got to work on our school work!  By 1pm, everyone was done with classwork and enjoying the day building legos, playing with Jellybean, listening to audiobooks and working on projects.  It was a perfect snow day!

Laurel Bluffs Trail

Brisk morning hike along the Eno!  The big excitement of this trail was building our own bridge to cross from one trail to another! Alex said, "...the reason why I liked this project was because everyone could contribute something even if it was a small rock or just testing the bridge."
