Art Lesson 101

We tried crayons this week! The kids got a very small amount of color on the paper and a lot in their mouths. I am glad Crayola puts "Non-Toxic" all over their packages!

Max and Mommy's Morning Out

Max and I had a morning out together! It is such a treat to give a little extra attention to one kid at a time. Usually, Peter and I do this on the weekend but Max and I needed a haircut! Kate stayed home and got smothered with attention from Ms. Kayla!

Max on the Slide

Play Mates

Jenn and Coby came for a little visit last weekend. We took them to our new favorite park (big surprise). It is just 1/2 mile from our house, we can walk, and all the equipment is short. Both loved the freedom of crawling around on their own. Max LOVES the tunnel and slide. He actually goes down the slide head first on his own. He is a daring little guy! Kate enjoyed looking at herself in the mirror, watching Coby run around, and going down the slide. She was nervous the first day but willing to go down on her own the next day.

12-Months

Today we visited the doctor for our 1 year well-baby check-up. Both Kate and Max are doing very well and continue to grow and develop appropriately. Kate weighs 20lb 2oz and measures 29 inches. Max weighs 21lb 4oz and measures 29.7 inches.

A little story about Max... Sunday, we decided to try peanut butter. Thankfully I decided not to do this until Peter got home because Max had a reaction. He had red splotches everywhere peanut butter touched and welts. Fortunately, it did not impact his breathing and we were able to get it under control with benadryl. Now we have our Epi-Pen and will be seeing an allergist to do further analysis. Poor Max... :(

Other than that, our little peanuts are doing very well and are tons of fun. They play hard together, dance to all the musical things in their playroom, and have started giving each other kisses on purpose. It is super fun to watch them interact with each other - mostly they are nice to each other with the occasional hair pulling (Kate), pacifier stealing (Kate), and toy taking (both).

Kate loves her bunny, waving HI and BYE, getting all the attention, looking out the windows, getting up and down hundreds of times a day, using all her toys to cruise around, trying to get up the stairs before I catch her and gives the biggest, wettest kisses but putting her mouth around ours (hilarious).

Max will play with the bead maze for extended periods of time not even caring that the beads never make it to the other end of the wire. He pulls up on things on his own, waves occasionally, says Dadda a lot, loves to play with the Velcro on his shoes, and gives the best head butts ever!

Elmo's World

The kids and I went to A Sea of Learning to visit with Elmo. I did not really think the kids would get into it or understand but thought we would give it a whirl. Kate and Max sat perfectly in their stroller watching all the kids run around and they tried to wave at all of them. Max LOVED touching Elmo's soft fur. Kate was a little freaked out but enjoyed all the kids. I met some great parents who gave me lots of great advice...

I am in Love!

Seriously, I am in love with my vacuum. After Peter watched me hand wash the floors for the sixth time in two days he came home with a little surprise - a cordless vacuum! He does not want to be known as the husband that bought a vacuum for his wife, but seriously I LOVE IT!
I think he was really hoping to save the polyurethane on the floors!

Our Tar Heels Turned One!

We had an awesome day celebrating Kate and Max's first birthday!
From Kate & Max - 1st Birthday

The kids had no idea what was going on and were blown away with all the excitement and attention that descended upon them after their morning nap! Their grandparents, great grandma Adam, Aunt Jenny and Uncle Andy, their number one sitter Shannon, Jenn and their play buddy Coby, Lora and Cole, and the Schultz boys were all in attendance. Uncle Matty tried to make it, but was stuck in the Dominican Republic because of the east coast blizzard! We skyped with Lana from New Zealand and Emma (home sick) sent us pictures holding candles. It was a whirlwind of activity - a feast of BBQ; tons of awesome gifts including books, a bird feeder, toys that make music, sing, roll, stack, and move by remote etc.; and cupcakes. All the kids played so well together and we managed to keep the blue icing in the kitchen (as far as we know).

Kate and Max practiced their walking with anyone who would hold their hands. Max and Coby enjoyed playing under the coffee table. Kate was in love with baby Ian and was very gentle. Merritt loved everything that had to do with Sesame Street, Elmo, and cupcakes. Gavin was super helpful at opening gifts and playing with Kate and Max and he even gave Max his first potato chip! Sarah, God love her, took a million pictures. The Grandmas were amazing doing EVERYTHING from cleaning the kitchen to holding babies. Grandma Mary brought Great Grandma Adam down from Connecticut for the weekend. Grammy Kranz made the the most incredible first birthday bibs ever (plus a matching apron for me) - I want to frame them not use them!

The whole event was spectacular and it will be replaying in my head for months! Thank you to everyone who sent us sweet messages, called, emailed, and came to visit. It means so much to us that so many people love our kids the way we do!

1 Year

I can not believe that a year ago our little girl and little boy were born!

As a mom I apparently have the right, my friend told me so, to recount the moments (or days) that led up to the big event that will last a lifetime. It all started with one of my many stress tests at 36 weeks to make sure everything was going well. Due to the small nature of the babies and onset of cholestasis(they suspected), the doctors decided to get the show on the road. I was induced the next day, February 4, at 8pm. I spent the next twenty-four hours laboring with little progress and then they broke my water. Then things really picked up and after about seven hours I began to tremble uncontrollably at which point the nurse said "Are you ready to have a baby or two?". Fast-forward through a really quick delivery...Kate was born (sunny-side up; cord around her neck) at 5:15am at a whopping 4lb 11oz and Max (who flipped at the last minute and had to be turned) was born at 5:19am weighing 4lb 6oz. The nurses and doctors were AMAZING! Kate did quite well on her own, we just had to count and record every mL of formula. Max was a little small for comfort so they helped him gain weight using 22 cal. formula. We were so thrilled go home together as a family.
A few pictures...

YAY for Snow!

A perfect snow hit NC this past weekend. How wonderful when it falls on a weekend when no one is trying to get anywhere! We discovered just how many kids there are in our neighborhood as they ALL crept out with slides of every shape and color. Kate and Max watched from their playroom window as the kids slid down the hill in front of our house. Kate screamed every time a kid whizzed down - I mean squealed at the top of her lungs! Max watched very closely.

We went for a family walk around the lake. Max stayed bundled in his coat, hat, mittens, two blankets and weather shield. Kate decided to take off her mittens and she was a very sad little girl the last twenty minutes of the walk - I felt terrible.

The next day we tried to get them to play in the snow. Max sat still and enjoyed the bright white. Kate put her hands in the snow, again NO MITTENS, and immediately wanted Daddy to get it off. Of course, Dad saved the day kisses and all.
